'Fuckaroundery' is one of the advantages of retirement; falling down while putting on one's underpants is a disadvantage. (sigh) I recently got back in touch with my inner (wannabe) artist and find it to be quite relaxing, but only because I'm not trying to paint the next Monet. No pressure, just an exercise in shits 'n giggles...and boy is my work giggle worthy! :)
Very similar experience with drawing and art as you, my friend. I used to doodle all the time and then somehow society beat the joy out of me. Well, I say we beat society to death with our joy.
I moved houses recently and wanted to go from modern/empty/boring to a more cozy vibe without spending much, so I made all the friends that have dropped by make paintings with me. Nobody really knows how to paint, so I help out by serving drinks. I took pictures of every session and every time we look like a table of hyper-focused (and somewhat tipsy) 8-year-olds. Only got positive feedback. Highly recommend.
On behalf of 90's teachers everywhere, many apologies. The NCLB years were dark. Glad your inner artist survived and is coming back to life.
