I originally posted these a few years ago as a Twitter thread. But Elon Musk deleted it along with almost everything on Twitter published before 2022 in order to save money — since these days the website is essentially powered by a couple of hamsters running on wheels. So I’m republishing this thread here so that it can live somewhere on the internet. Also, I didn’t write anything new for the newsletter this week because I was focused on other writing, which I also didn’t do. BUT, accomplishing one’s goals is all a matter of perspective, as I said today over on Notes:
A small announcement
At some point in the next few weeks, I am going to turn on paid subscriptions. Absolutely nothing is going to change — every post will still be available to everyone, and I still plan on posting roughly once a week. This is simply a way to give those who have an interest in supporting my work the opportunity to do so, which I will be eternally grateful for! Writing for a living is hard, so every bit helps.
While I don’t plan on offering any subscriber-only perks (aside from my undying gratitude!) I am exploring ways to integrate more of the teaching I do (workshops, humor writing courses, feedback, etc.) into Substack, possibly as a separate newsletter. So keep an eye out for that in the coming months if that’s something you’re interested in. And if there are specific offerings you’d like from me, let me know!
I've never wanted to re-read The Iliad more.
Everything about this made my day. Which is 100% more day-making content than I’d set out to consume, so… goal surpassed and I’m off to take a nap!
